This dark, gritty novella is about growing up in difficult circumstances, where the suggestion of violence hovers beneath the surface of every relationship.
Addy's 18, graduated, and getting the hell out of her stifling, small town -- it's the perfect excuse for one last raunchy party. Her and her boyfriend Craig are moving to the city in the morning. But on their way home from the celebration, their plans are derailed when the teens spot Jonas, the 14-year-old town outcast, walking the road alone.
Wild with anticipation and alcohol, and goaded by her friends, Addy chases Jonas down with the car. But the hunt goes horribly wrong when Addy accidentally hits him.
Guilt fuels her to postpone her moving plans until she's sure the boy is okay, causing a rift between her and Craig. The rift deepens as Addy develops an odd, almost obsessive, interest in Jonas, who's desperate for contact. The entangling relationships lead to a tragic event that forces Addy to re-evaluate everything she once wanted. Size of a Fist is a story about guilt, violence and teenage sexuality.
"This is a brave and astonishing work, harshly beautiful, with a note of hope beating under the difficulties that these young characters endure."
